How Chemical Peels Work

Chemical peels work by applying a specialized solution that exfoliates the skin and removes dead skin cells. This process triggers natural regeneration, stimulates collagen production, and promotes radiant skin cell turn over revealing a healthier, more vibrant complexion. Even after one session, you may notice improved brightness, texture, and tone. Peels also help reduce acne, shrink pores, minimize acne scars, and soften fine lines. With continued treatments, they support long-term renewal, leaving your skin smoother, clearer, and glowing.

What Chemical Peels Treat

Chemical peels are a versatile solution for a wide range of skin concerns and treatment areas. They help reduce breakouts, fade acne scars, diminish sun damage and hyperpigmentation, and soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Peels also improve uneven texture, balance oily skin, and minimize the appearance of enlarged pores, revealing fresh, healthy skin and a more refined complexion.

While commonly used on the face, chemical peels can also rejuvenate areas like the neck and hands, where fine lines, wrinkles, and discoloration often appear. Whether you’re targeting facial acne, smoothing the neck, or restoring glow to your hands, each peel is tailored to your goals.

What to Expect at a Chemical Peel Appointment

Before Your Chemical Peel

To prepare for your treatment, it’s best to avoid retinol, exfoliating products, sun exposure, and waxing for about a week beforehand. Arrive at your appointment with clean, product-free skin so your provider can properly assess your needs and customize the peel for your unique skin goals.

During Your Chemical Peel

Once your skin is cleansed, a deep cleansing process is performed to thoroughly remove impurities and prepare your skin for the peel. Extractions may also be carried out to clear pores and enhance the effectiveness of the treatment. Next, a chemical solution will be carefully applied. You may feel a light tingling or warming sensation as the peel activates, but the process is a pain free procedure and is generally considered painless and very comfortable. The full treatment takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes, and you’ll be in a relaxing setting throughout the session.

After Your Chemical Peel

Following your peel, it’s normal to experience mild redness or sensitivity, and some people notice light flaking or peeling for a few days as the outer layer of skin cells begins to shed. This exfoliation process encourages radiant skin cell turnover, helping to reveal the fresh, healthy skin beneath. The healing timeline depends on the strength of the peel, but downtime is generally minimal. You’ll be advised to wear sunscreen daily and avoid exfoliating until your skin fully recovers. Most clients notice a visibly refreshed and glowing complexion within just a few days.

Paired Treatments

Chemical peels can be even more effective when combined with other treatments that target concerns like acne, enlarged pores, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and uneven texture. Dermaplaning, for example, removes dead skin and peach fuzz, allowing the peel to penetrate more deeply and rejuvenate the skin. When paired with a hydrating hyaluronic acid serum, it helps restore moisture while enhancing your skin’s natural beauty. Post-peel facials soothe and nourish, while laser treatments can be added to treat deeper pigmentation and refine texture.

These pairing options support collagen production, long-term skin health, and a complete, personalized approach to treatment, so you Beam brighter with every session.

FAQs

How often should I get a chemical peel?

Most light peels can be done every 4 to 6 weeks, while deeper peels are typically spaced out every 2 to 3 months depending on your skin’s response.

Some clients experience visible flaking or shedding of dead skin, while others may not peel at all. Both outcomes are normal and depend on the peel strength and your skin type.

Downtime is minimal for most chemical peels. You might experience mild redness, dryness, or sensitivity, but most people are able to continue with their normal activities right away.

We recommend waiting at least 24 hours before applying makeup to give your skin time to rest and heal, especially after a medium-depth peel.

Lactic acid peels are gentle, hydrating, and perfect for sensitive skin types.
